CADFIL FEM/FEA Mandrel import

HelpCadfil Help contents      HomeIconCadfil.com Home

In CADFIL it is possible to generate FEA models using the FEA interfaces option. For some basic checking it is possible to read these models back into Cadfil and do basic 3D viewing options. For most of these formats it is also possible to save the geometry as a Cadfil mandrel (.mnd) for use with certain non-axisymmetric program generation options. As of version 9.54, Cadfil currently supports import of NASTRAN BDF geometry models, ESACOMP geometry models, STL geometry (3D Printer) files and LS-PrePrep Keyword (.k) models. ABAQUS .inp files support is slightly different and is detailed in a section below.

In order to import models, select 'Import FEA Geometry' from the 'Analysis Option' menu, select the file type to import from the dropdown box shown below, then select the file to import.

FEA Geometry import options

Cadfil will then give the option to apply a scale factor if required, before giving the option to save the file as a .mnd mandrel file. Once the import is complete, Cadfil will show the mandrel in the Advanced Graphics window.

ABAQUS inp files import supports multi-part models. For each part in the .inp (input) file a Nastran deck of the same part name with GRIDS and elements is created. Any of this individual Nastran Decks can then be imported into Cadfil using the Nastran BDF option. Shell element types S6, CPS6, CPE6, CAX6, S8, S8R, CPE8, CPE8R, CPS8 and CPS8R are supported and visualisation solid C3D15, C3D6, C3D20, C3D8, C3D8R types. Output Nastran entities are GRID, CTRA3, CQUAD4, CPENTA6 and CHEXA8 elements.
